There's also a Smothers Brothers version ending with John Henry saying, "I'm gonna get me one of them steam drills too, oh boy, gonna get me a steam drill too."
Entirely different interpretation wrt what you wrote!

Retired from being Professionally Confused. Light (LED) artist. Cat person. Husband of Robin (ironic for a cat person, you think?). Parent of a bunch of wonderful people. Favorite pasttime: walking in the woods and fields. Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Revolt on Alpha C, by Robert Silverberg. Probably from Scholastic Books. Read it in elementary school. I still remember the closing lines, six decades later!
11.08.2025 21:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It looks like I'll be displaying some art in the Philly Fringe Festival this year. It'll be at the Performance Lounge Sept 8-10, 6-11PM. They didn't make the paper catalog (sigh, paperwork hassles), but you should stop by!

Saw a video "Why drug prices are so high in America". Some call it "a broken system". Some call it "capitalism". Some ask, "Are they the same thing?"
20.07.2025 08:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Is Alligator Alcatraz just a stockpile of cheap labor to help rebuild after the next big storm (can't use the word 'hurricane' any more) comes through?
29.06.2025 18:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Looking up Anna Thorlsvoldattir, a composer I haven't listened to in a while. Checked her Wikipedia entry in which she is listed as "Anna S. ΓorvaldsdΓ³ttir"!
10.06.2025 21:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hey, if we're going with things assigned at birth as being immutable, can we go back to calling Trump's pitbull James Donald Bowman?
(My apologies for disparaging pitbulls by the association...)
Love Google Search's AI.
Asked for the 2500th digit, counting from the right, in 10000! (10000 factorial).
It told me, after some text,
"Using a computer program, we find that the 2500th digit from the right is 9."
I've solved this many times. The answer is 8.
Close as always, Google.
Reading that 23andMe is now considered one of the most serious threats to your personal data.
And hearing Elon Musk saying, "hold my beer."
Saw Ink&Paint tonight at the Media Theatre. Staged reading of a new musical covering women animators/artists at Disney in the early 40s. Fantastic show. Go see it, now, it only runs thru Mar 9.

02.03.2025 18:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Saw a wonderful noon concert at the Wanamaker Organ (Macy's Philadelphia) yesterday. Pre-mourning the pause of these center-city delights with the upcoming closing of Macy's Philly. Hope they do the Right Thing and preserve the Grand Court, organ, concerts, and winter festival.
28.02.2025 18:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I use microcontrollers to create LED art and other sensor/interactive things. Most use onboard flash storage, but some projects require greater storage. SDCards to the rescue!
28.02.2025 18:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Made cacio e pepe for dinner. Been a while; I keep forgetting how easy it is to make and how delicious it is.
The hardest part: grinding the pepper :-D.
Last night I was looking at a box of bamboo toothpicks and was thinking, they should make toothpicks out of ebony, walnut, rosewood, boxwood, and other woods with neat colors.
Beats tacky colored plastic toothpicks.
Last Saturday -- walked the snowy four blocks from my house to the three-block-long "center of town". Went to the (independent) bakery. Bought a still-warm-out-of-the-oven sourdough batard; chatted with the baker and a few of the staff. Walked home, slices for breakfast. Small towns!
16.01.2025 18:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I use winter peas as a cover crop in my garden. A thick tangle of pea shoots... I harvested a bunch and made pea shoot pesto. Yum.
16.01.2025 18:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Trim the end of a straw into a long'ish (3/4"?) triangle, with the point in the middle. Two triangles, top and bottom.
Press it between your teeth just past the triangles and blow. You'll get the most horrendous buzzing sound.
A double reed, the haut straw or ostraw. Like haut bois/oboe.
Thanks, and yes to the Barkleys. The volume covers 12/18/50 (Holiday Affair) through 1/8/51 (Once More, My Darling). I also have 6/4-25/51.

25.12.2024 19:14 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I picked up two volumes of Lux Radio Theatre scripts from the 50s. Got them somewhere, somewhen, perhaps some library's "get rid of old and donated things" tables? This is the first time I've actually read the Oz script end-to-end. Hand-written notes -- the original/typed script said Liza...
25.12.2024 19:14 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0First page of the "as broadcast" radio script from Lux Radio Theatre, 12/25/1950. Judy Garland starring in The Wizard of Oz.
Just finished reading this... Remember when Wizard of Oz was the standard for the holiday season? Judy Garland even mentions four-year-old daugher Liza in the outro. An odd volume from my library.

I'm now suggesting to conspirationalists that the gov't is spraying COVID vaccines to the general population. Maybe measles and polio as well. Their previous method (contrail sprays) wasn't working well.
And that only N95 masks will keep the sprays out.
