This is a very “look at the bitch eating chips” complaint that I would not raise if the game’s story was more specialer, but making Cid the Obi Wan is also the hackiest choice they could have made. Sneak that Cid in less obvious ways! Poor FFXVI wants to be cool and bland, to hang out with AssCreed.

I have not, but the greatest influence appears to be things like Assassin’s Creed or Uncharted or anything that is not Final Fantasy (or even Japanese)

I’m not necessarily trying to say that Uncharted is pablum or FFXVI is much like it, but it’s more that the story and characters seem to be aiming for mass appeal to the American Gamer in an unchallenging, and to me unengaging way. I’m about 1/4th of the way through the story of Final Fantasy 16 and I can not even believe how generic and un-FF it is. This is like the Roland Emmerich’s Godzilla of Final Fantasies standing next to the other zillas. It’s like they told staff at Naughty Dog to write it. AAA gloss over pure pablum.
