Indeed people in Osaka tend to use Aho instead of Baka.
But I don’t think Aho is derived from Sanskrit. People in the 17-18c Japan believed that Aho came from the “Efang” Palace which was built by the first emperor of China, but there is no certain source. So the etymology is unknown.

Maybe you know the Japanese word “Baka (馬鹿)”, which means “fool, idiot”. It’s derived from Sanskrit words, moha(fool) or mahallaka (ignorant).
Though its Kanji means horse (馬) and deer (鹿) , they are just phonetic equivalent characters for the loanword. I feel sorry for horses and deer.

「人の成果物を窃盗すな」という呪詛めいた意思表示として、イラストに逆さ札を入れました。やけに文字情報とハンコの多い浮世絵が好き、というのもある。

関西には「十二月十二日」と書いた札を逆さに貼って泥棒除けとする風習があります（これは実話）
今でも京都の老舗や銭湯で見かけることがある。大阪の祖父宅にも貼られていました。

月岡芳年の『月百姿』みたいなのを描きたいな　と思って描き始めたものの、付け焼き刃で手が届くもんじゃないという当たり前の現実に衝突したのであった。月は遠い。

弥勒嶽で信仰されていた神馬。異称は弥勒春駒。その声は鹿に似る。
立春の時節に榊の下に現れ、一年の吉凶を予言する。銅鏡によって占卜にあたるが、六度占えば五度誤る。はなはだ出鱈目な神馬であったため、二枚舌の象徴とする村もあった。
元より威信に乏しく、やがて求心力を失い、僅かばかり残されていた社も明治以前に廃された。時と共に忘れ去られた由、詮無きことである。（採訪百化帖／昭37）

It’s so hard to translate my own fictional medievalish folklore into another language, haha. I hope my EN description makes sense. It’s fun to make original deities and folklore.

One day, the emperor ordered villages to offer a fine horse. Since the villagers didn’t have horses anymore, they caught and decorated a male deer, and disguised him as a horse.
In this way, the horse-deer entity was born.

Trivia: Once Mt.Miroku was the wild horse's habitat. But they became extinct by the late medieval times because of indiscriminate hunting for their meat.

Some documents say that he’s a liar.
Thus the villagers lost their faith and abandoned him. There is no shrine related to him left now.

かつて弥勒嶽には、数多の馬が生息していた。一帯では食用と見なされていたようだ。駅路の整備と共に乱獲され、平安後期までに絶滅したと考えられている。
天子の嫡男が誕生した午年、名馬を供せよとの勅令が下った。馬を狩り尽くして久しい弥勒嶽の村落は、一計を案じた。牡鹿の角を切り落とし、馬具と藁の尾で飾り、山一番の名馬であると騙ったのだ。
斯くして土着の神鹿信仰に上書きする形で、弥勒駿駒が顕現した。馬であるか、鹿であるか。人間の詐意によって貶められた、歪な神獣と言えるだろう。
尚、弥勒嶽の表記が現れるのは近世以降である。馬が滅び、鹿が栄えたこの山は、元来『御鹿嶽』であった。 #創作伝承

Xでは2024年に過去ログを全削除して以来、ブログ更新時のみ告知する仮死状態運用を続けていました。4万フォロワーのXアカウントですが、外部リンクを封殺するプラットフォームでは告知能力も死に体。日本向けの窓口として一応残していましたが、今年からは完全にシャッターを閉めようと思っています。

今回のHATO POSTは実験的にXでは告知せず、Blueskyでのみ情報公開しました。現時点でのプリント部数は普段の平均値から僅かマイナス5。意外にも誤差の範囲ということがわかったので、もうXアカウントは完全に停止してBlueskyだけの運用で問題無さそう。
