As discourse around this situation becomes political, as it always does in situations like this, we need to remember to centre the victims. Speculation is not helpful. Demonizing groups of people for the actions of an individual is not helpful.

Tumbler Ridge is grieving, and it’s important now more than ever, to put politics aside and stand in love and respect with this community in its time of mourning.

Devastated by the news of up to 10 deceased in Tumbler Ridge shooting. British Columbians will mourn this for decades.

Graphic about BC politics saying the BC Greens ended a cooperation agreement with the BC NDP, with proportional representation listed as a key sticking point. We hoped to see progress on proportional representation in these talks. While that did not happen, we are encouraged to see leaders keep the conversation alive.

Thank you to the BC Greens for standing up for a better democracy. The work continues.

What’s best for British Columbia
The BC Green Caucus will keep working for a better British Columbia for all. That means social equity, economic stability, and climate action.

We expect the BC NDP to deliver on their promises. This is a big moment for our province, and we can’t afford a government that’s afraid to take courageous action.

What happens now?
The BC Green Caucus will assess our confidence in this government on a vote-by-vote basis.

We will continue to advocate for British Columbians. We’ll assess the budget as it’s presented, and vote in favour if it takes meaningful action on affordability, healthcare, housing and climate.

The BC NDP have a majority. If they want an election, that’s their choice.

B.C. forestry review seeks overhaul, moving focus away from harvest volumes VANCOUVER β€” A government-commissioned review of forestry in British Columbia is calling for the system to be razed and rebuilt with a focus on trust and transparency about the state of the province's ...

Today's PFAC report takes a wider view of systemic issues in BC forestry.

But here's the BC Greens' position: We need to ban raw log exports, and maximize value-added production.

02.02.2026 21:24 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

7/ The report does build on the Old Growth Strategic Review and provide a roadmap toward implementing it.

We need the government to commit now: to implementing the Old Growth Strategic Review, as the Provincial Forestry Advisory Council recommends, ushering in the change BC’s forests need.

02.02.2026 20:43 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

6/ What about old growth?

While the BC Greens commend the work of PFAC, the report does not directly address immediate protection of BC's last remaining old growth in a manner supported by First Nations - something the BC Greens see as essential.

02.02.2026 20:43 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

5/ Reimagine BCTS

Regional management is incompatible with the current structure of BC Timber Sales. PFAC says the BCTS program is costly and overly complex.

02.02.2026 20:43 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

4/ Independent oversight

Separating forest oversight from the provincial government will break down silos allowing for cross-ministry, cross-industry decision making. Independent oversight is nonpartisan, and encourages long-term thinking that goes beyond the next election.

02.02.2026 20:43 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

3/
Regional decision-making will empower First Nations and communities, improve wildfire management, stabilize local jobs and protect fragile ecosystems.

02.02.2026 20:43 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

3/ Regional decision-making

It’s time for a structural reset. BC’s forest management should shift from a centralized, volume-driven system to regional, area-based land management designed for long-term stability.

02.02.2026 20:43 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

2/ Better Data
We need more information about BC’s forests, and it needs to be accessible and shared across sectors. Using modern technology and transparent reporting, we can get a clear sense of what’s happening in BC’s forests and how that’s changing over time.

02.02.2026 20:43 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

1/ What does today’s Provincial Forestry Advisory Council report recommend?

-Better Data
-Regional decision-making
-Independent oversight (cross-ministry, nonpartisan, long-term)
-Reimagine BCTS

Corporate interests have guided this industry for too long. Nobodyβ€”from environmentalists to forestry companiesβ€”is happy with what’s happening with British Columbia’s forests. There is a cost to this conflict.

Mill closures, drought, climate change, tariffs, and wildfires have shaken workers and families, and devastated towns and ecosystems. BC’s forestry industry cannot continue to function the way it has, and we cannot risk another short-term fix.

By delivering 30,000 affordable homes through Cooperation and Responsible Government Accord, the B.C. Greens are helping ensure the Rental Protection Fund keeps existing homes affordable and people rooted in their communities. This is how we prevent displacement and make sure no one is left behind.
