You know what could fix this? Work from home. Could literally become an economic boom for the country if London jobs were available to more locations. Company productivity would go up, and people could afford homes. It would also revitalize areas.

Love the sentiment, dislike the need to bring religion into politics. That's how Trump came to power.

In 2015, the main criticism of bitcoin was that it would finance organized crime and human trafficking. Anyone who is pretending that they didn't know is either a liar or ignorant.

I thought they just reduced cervical screenings from 3 years to 5? HPV is the number one cause of cancer in women, with most countries screening every year.

I'm not sure I would have chosen to come and make a life in the UK if I needed to wait 10 years for ILR. A clear path to citizenship in your 20's definitely tips the scales regarding a decision to immigrate (even with offers from Oxford and Bristol).

Visa stress is real and 10 years is so long.

I’ve thought this too especially when you think about the amount they post on social media too

So many of these people seem to also have a breeding kink, but must spend no real time with their families

They must have no hobbies beyond β€œpartying” 🀒

I can’t imagine always being on my phone. Bizarre

An alternative hypothesis: if Millennials, Gen X and boomers were sitting exams like Gen Z we’d find a drop in intelligence across the board.

It’s almost like a novel virus that causes cognitive decline emerged 5 years ago.

I’ve spent my entire life on a screen, yet somehow they keep blaming screens.

The compulsion to ignore Covid is going to cause so many poor policy choices

I agree that is a whole lot of ableism that underscores this response. Being immunocompromised is an β€œacceptable” reason to care about Covid to them, while others are disregarded. The cultural impact of previous pandemics/endemics have taken time to fully show up in culture. 5 years isn’t that long.

That’s what happened with AIDS too. There was denial for over a decade until the impacts became too great to deny.

As someone who has been in several of these conversations I’ve tried to point out the elephant in the room. They sincerely can’t wrap their head around it. It’s not real to them yet.

I propose an alternative framing: we’re still in the middle of a pandemic and learning to deal with a novel virus. The full impacts haven’t happened.

It could be years until we see COVID in art/writing, just like how AIDS took decades to enter the mainstream political and cultural consciousness.

The social contract supporting academia is broken: its gamification is leading to everyone being worse off.

I'm confused: there are so many schemes for civil servants, at all levels, done through accredited universities now. There is almost too much of a push for accreditation. I know many PhDs who start off as an HEO & spend much of their time upskilling. Isn't this just a repackage of what's happening?

At what point can we start agreeing that the system has been corrupted to facilitate mega wealth inequality? Otherwise billionaires couldn’t exist

The social contract is broken.

After this insanity, any reform needs to tackle wealth inequality as a priority.

These β€œthinkers” use a whole lot of words to confuse. Too many people try to engage them on an intellectual basis. Simple empathy undermines all their credibility.

Empathy demonstrates to everyone how vile these fools are.

Which is why people like Musk ridicule empathy.

While this is good, this is pretty technocratic in the middle of a crisis. There's a lot of assumptions that this will even be possible: but without more concrete action the rule of law may become a moot point.

Immigration is really irrelevant, no?

It's counter productive to breathe life into their smoke screen.

β€œThe old order is not coming back. We should not mourn it. Nostalgia is not a strategy.

But from the fracture, we can build something better, stronger, and more just.”
