I reiterated the continued need for coordinated national, provincial and municipal enforcement resources targeting extortion. We also discussed B.C.’s support for Bill C-12 and all measures to prevent criminals from exploiting the refugee claim system.

Met today with federal Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree senior federal RCMP and CBSA leadership, to discuss the extortion crisis affecting communities in B.C. and across Canada.

Two men have been charged in connection with a shots fired incident in Surrey. Harshdeep Singh and Hanspreet Singh are in custody following the swift work of @surreyps Project Assurance, which targets extortion and extortion-related shootings, along with partner agencies and Crown Counsel.

We will continue to support police as they investigate these crimes and hold those responsible to justice.

Mental health and substance-use crises are health issues, but they can quickly become public safety emergencies.

That’s why we’re working in partnership with police, health-care providers, and community partners to expand HealthIM on South Vancouver Island.

I met with Mothers Against Drunk Driving Canada CEO Steve Sullivan, Legal Director Eric Dumschat and Western Canada Manager Tracy Crawford to discuss opportunities to improve road safety in B.C. I look forward to ongoing collaboration to ensure that we remain a leader in combating impaired driving.

B.C.’s Crime Severity Index fell 11% in 2024 — the largest drop in Canada and our lowest level in six years.
And 2025 was a strong year for public safety investments that helped police address repeat violent offending and street disorder.
