Handbooks still saying that Biblical Hebrew is basically a VSO language is deeply misleading; this is a function of the morphosyntax of the wayyiqtol, nothing more. Sentences with qatal and pure yiqtol are often SVO or in some cases even a little V2-ish.

If you're a learner or new reader of Greek or Syriac, or if you teach Greek or Syriac, try out the Pearlsong!
In Greek, there's both a late ancient prose text and a Byzantine paraphrase (in a homily); in Syriac, it's a 105-line poem.
Glossaries for both languages are included.

โIt was a very healthy reciprocal acceptance of suffering,โ he said. โWhich does not mean being defeated by suffering. Acceptance is not defeat. Acceptance is just awareness.โ He smiled in anticipation of the callback: โ โYou gotta learn to love the bomb,โ โ he said. โBoy, did I have a bomb when I was 10. That was quite an explosion. And I learned to love it. So that's why. Maybe, I don't know. That might be why you don't see me as someone angry and working out my demons onstage. It's that I love the thing that I most wish had not happened.โ
I love the thing that I most wish had not happened.
I asked him if he could help me understand that better, and he described a letter from Tolkien in response to a priest who had questioned whether Tolkien's mythos was sufficiently doctrinaire, since it treated death not as a punishment for the sin of the fall but as a gift. โTolkien says, in a letter back: โWhat punishments of God are not gifts?โ โ Colbert knocked his knuckles on the table. โ โWhat punishments of God are not gifts?โ โ he said again. His eyes were filled with tears. โSo it would be ungrateful not to take everything with gratitude. It doesn't mean you want it. I can hold both of those ideas in my head.โ
when i think of Colbert, i think of an interview he gave to GQ when he first took over The Late Show, and had this to say about losing his father and brothers in a plane crash. www.gq.com/story/stephe...

This is deeply sad, especially after my home (western North Carolina) was left devastated by a hurricane just last September. FEMA did indescribably crucial work there. This whole thing is a disaster

Spanish โtengo un sueรฑoโ means โI have a dreamโ.
In contrast, โtengo sueรฑoโ means โIโm sleepyโ (lit. โI have sleepโ).
Why does โsueรฑoโ mean both โsleepโ and โdreamโ, two very different things?
Itโs because โsueรฑoโ and โsueรฑoโ are different words โ with a different etymology.

The NRSV translation of Luke-Acts is so frustrating.
When Luke-Acts uses the Greek word akribฤs in proximity to references to the Pharisees (Acts 22:3; 26:5), NRSV translates it as 'strictly'/'strictest', which to most readers likely implies something negative. But...

I support the US garment industry. I don't believe in making life harder for immigrants or erecting blanket tariffs. So how can we reshore some of our US garment manufacturing without xenophobia or protectionism? Here's my view. ๐งต
