I spent the early part of my career working with people impacted by Republican attacks on environmental protection. In Ohio, the Republican-controlled environmental regulator was so corrupt that they put out a document saying that oil drillers were there “allies”

Republicans have spent decades trying to defund and defang government agencies across the country protecting our natural resources. When you do that, you make it more likely that catastrophic environmental pollution happens

The DC government can 100% better use the resources it has and operate more efficiently and with a greater sense of urgency. I have said as much. But at the end of the day, you need money to fund environmental protection, and national Republicans keep on taking it away from us

The President put out this post maybe a day before he signs a bill attempting to steal $600 million in local tax dollars from DC that we could use to fund DC Water to prevent the next Potomac spill. Spare me the BS that Republicans are better at providing people clean water

ICE just murdered another American in broad daylight. Congress cannot fund without significant reforms an agency engaged in this level of lawlessness. But that shouldn't stop the rest of the federal budget from passing. The Senate should strip DHS funding out and pass everything else

Washington DC is the only jurisdiction in the nation that has to wait with bated breath to see if out-of-state politicians have used the federal budget to impose their values on us and repeal local laws. It is wrong, and the only solution to this injustice is DC Statehood. I will keep pushing for it

Unfortunately, the bill does maintain the two "legacy" riders on DC that prevent us from using our own local tax dollars to help women get abortions and that allow us to legalize the sale of marijuana

The bill also allows DC to use the FY 27 budget approved by our government if any continuing resolution does not specifically state otherwise, and provides our police department the requested amount for emergency planning and security

I am happy to report that the bipartisan bill funding the portion of the federal budget dealing with Washington DC contains no new riders repealing local DC laws.
