His underlying metrics scare me. Murakami strikes out a ton, especially on balls in the zone. I want the Mets to go after Okamoto.

I’d rather they take a shot at Okamoto but I would be okay with O’Hearn.

Is much rather they sign Okamoto but have to admit Murakami only getting two years is pretty low risk.

I would be a lot more worried about Murakami’s tools translating. Okamoto is a veteran, plays solid defense, hits for average w/ some power. I think he’s the safer bet of the two.

Now that Murakami has signed with the White Sox, the Mets better be all in on Okamoto!

I’d rather have Okamoto or Contreras than Murakami. Better defense at 1B and Murakami’s strikeouts, especially on balls in the zone scares me.

Interestingly enough, his defensive metrics are good except going to his right. Hopefully having a gold glove second baseman would give Pete the confidence to let those balls go. But I’d be fine with 5 years if he DH’s the last 2-3.
