UW violated free speech by blocking animal testing comments on social media, court says UW-Madison's practice of blocking negative comments about animal research from its social media accounts was unconstitutional, an appeals court ruled.

In a victory for free speech, a federal judge ruled that @uwmadison.bsky.social 's blocking of social media comments critical of its use of animals in horrific experiments is unconstitutional. Former primate caretaker @madelinekrasno.bsky.social won her appeal in the 7th circuit.

Many lab workers care deeply about animals and humans. They often enter the field hoping to make a difference, not to cause harm.

Yesterday Impex delivered macaques to Labcorp Huntingdon (HLS) under cover of darkness, today they were back with a van full of beagle puppies. All the monkeys & dogs will be systematically poisoned to death.
Sickening exploitation by these completely abhorrent companies.

Opinion | I worked at the UW primate lab, and the inhumanity still haunts me I’ve learned that the inhumane treatment of animals and the mental health impacts for workers are standard across the industry.

The NIH spends approximately $21 billion annually on animal experimentation, justified and glamorized by the potential benefits for humans, despite rarely resulting in those benefits.
