nterested in seeing the diversity of the birds we studied? Found them in our recently published field guides:
English: science.fieldmuseum.org/fieldguides/...
Español: science.fieldmuseum.org/es/fieldguid...
Over 2 years, we recorded 262 bird-butterfly interactions across tropical forest and urban sites in Peru.
We found that predation pressure is shared collectively across prey types. Bird age and family-level traits explained the success of butterflies in evading predation.
Huge congrats to Daniel and co-authors! 🤩

Prey avoid predators through camouflage, chemical defences, or rapid escape. But what drives their co-existence?
Also happy that our lab hosted two MSc students from Switzerland, Joanne and Lola, who spent two weeks working with Irena Klečková and Honza Kollross on climatic niche modelling. A very productive and inspiring visit! 👩💻👩💻🌎

03.07.2025 13:29 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0In skipper butterflies, the evolution of iridescence and "wing tails" comes together with particular changes in the size and shape of their two wing pairs. This points to evolutionary trade-offs between flight performance and antipredator defences
