Here's a comparison of ~2 yrs of progress for Midjourney, though
Outside of games, totally. ChatGPT has something like 400M weekly active users.
I think the games industry has been slow to adopt AI. But it feels inevitable that it'll happen.
The author is a well-known games industry leader (CEO of Nexon).
Whether AI behaves like a platform or not is actually a great question. I actually think that's the weakest point in the article.
It's early days, so it's hard to see a clear picture of the future!
Here's some cool stuff that feels like a glimpse of what's coming:

I don't think that comparison is very fair tbh. Here's a meme my friend made:
02.07.2025 18:08 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Gen AI is an emerging technology, so imo it's not fair to compare it to mature games. Think about how primitive the earliest 3D and online games were. AI is improving at an even faster rate than those did when they were new.
02.07.2025 18:00 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0"play pattern" is just a games industry term. You can just as easily say it'll enable new genres as well as revitalize old ones

We've only begun to see new play patterns enabled by AI. Here's one: www.playsuckup.com

01.07.2025 02:42 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I think generative AI has the potential to be a hugely positive force in the games industry, especially for indie, small, and medium-sized studios.
I'm glad you're experimenting with it and hope you don't pay attention to the negative comments! They're not representative of the full gaming audience.
