btw this is on the heels of me leaving ~6 months ago, my friend ‘leaving’ (working maybe one day a week when he felt like it but otherwise being a stay at home dad) around the same time, and then the week before the firings happened the other two staff in my room put in notice or quit without.

One of them was the woman who was my mentor when I stared, taught me everything about the job because I was fully new to the field. I am shocked that she of all the ppl in that building would be the one doing that.

I was there ten years, only 2 employees aside from the boss had been there longer, most of the rest of staff sitting at 1-3 years when I left.

Both of those two got suddenly fired. And this job only fires for actual serious misconduct. 😳

took a sick day with my boss's enthusiastic permission but still feel so anxious about it, even though i was watching my inbox for anything pressing and responded to a few messages throughout the day

kinda hate my old boss for making me so nervous about everything when i know i am very competent

its harder to feel like I have clocked out for the day when my work pc is also where I browse tumblr and write my silly little fanfics. I will open my work email out of muscle memory and start a reply before I realize it’s 9:30pm

I honestly can’t imagine what it would be like for a person who was born fully deaf. Would they be able to have tinnitus, or identify that they have it? would it be maddening to them too, or would be an interesting experience like “oh, so this is what hearing sound is like”?

I’ve worn hearing aids all my life been able to get by, like I worked retail jobs with minimal difficulty because I can lipread very well.

but the tinnitus is loud enough that it drowns out so much. I can’t hear a lot of what I used to be able to hear.

To my knowledge it’s fairly rare that deaf = total absence of sound, but there is a wide range of profound hearing loss where the remaining hearing is not enough to be useful, therefore deaf.

I actually considered myself “hearing-impaired” versus “deaf“ until I developed chronic tinnitus.

the ringing sound was and continues to be louder than the sounds I can actually hear in the environment around me, with or without a hearing aid. I wont hear a phone ringing unless it is in my hand or closer. there's really nothing else it could be except tinnitus

an interesting effect of being deaf but also having tinnitus is that everywhere and nowhere is quiet for me. simultaneously.

my commute involves rolling out of bed and walking to the living room, with a detour to the bathroom as needed

sometime I just pause and remember the fact that I work from home and damn do I feel blessed.

shoutout to the balled up piece of discarded masking tape that has lived on the bathroom rug for a month because the cat plays with it every single time she follows me in.

The sweet cream and flavor drizzle are actually nice and light, not too sweet and heavy, so this was a surprisingly airy treat compared to heavier state fair staples. Does make it a little messy to eat. The fork is not gonna do you any good, you’re gonna have to pick it up/tear it with your fingers

A+ honestly. The croissant itself was a good croissant to start, fresh and tasty. then waffle-izing it made it nice and warm but did not compress the flaky layers too much. I wondered if the waffle iron would make it crispy but it did not, it’s a soft warm croissant.

A very real threat btw.

While I was waiting in line I was watching a family with small kids try to enjoy a cone of cotton candy. Three bees got stuck in the cotton candy and had to be scooped out with a fork. The dad was holding it at arms length away from him the whole time 😂

Went to the Minnesota State Fair again, happy to report that the croffle cloud is delicious. perfect size for one person with a not-big stomach but also comes split in two to share. No pics because as soon as I got it I had to flee Spinning Wylde before a bee decided to kamikaze into my cotton candy

Cramming 2 of my most favorite foods together, with options for a banana flavor AND a coconut flavor? They are targeting me specifically!
