If that doesn't fix it you can remove the account and add it back again. Just make sure to check if you see all your email in the web interface first, and check that you are using IMAP with your email client. (If you are using POP it can remove all the locally stored email.)

Sorry you are having trouble. Apple sometimes remember errors even when everything is back up and running. You can try shutting it down and open again.
