seeing without meeting
Neon reflections
and second-hand emotions
spill from bars
while the passing cars

Winter smells like raw wood,
fir trees and tilled dirt.
Other times, it smells like
of feathers, crisp fire crackling,
and dust of family heirlooms.
It has a way of creating memory,
shape shifting into growth,
something softly
reminding me
that rest is possible
