The Wikipedia describes it as "The high-profile and protracted five-year development" (I know you're referring to a quote from mid -development). That's a pretty reasonable timeline considering the very public conflict within the dev team and the mental health struggles!

I got tired of looking at the same 2 sprites in my #gamedev stuff. Hopefully some #art can start giving this thing a visual identity.

I ended up making it work over the weekend. It's really easy! I have some specific requirements too, like changing the transform of certain tiles, but you can access all of that stuff. Next, I want to use the logic tiles to automatically place the offset tiles.

Have you checked out dual grid systems too? Seems like a good way to save time on tilesets and there are ways to implement it pretty easily, but I was going to try using rule tiles to do it first.

This is such a great write up. I hadn't thought of finishing a project as a skill but it makes perfect sense. Lots of hard lessons mentioned here too. I just found out about Unity's rule tiles after writing my own hacky version lol. Took me a weekend to recreate what took me a couple weeks to code.

Yeah, at this stage I have no clue, but at least it's functional for now. If this project pans out, I figure it'll be easier to try again when I understand the overall aesthetic better.

To be fair to Imgur, it was created as a host for Reddit, then Reddit started to host their own images and such so Imgur needed to pivot. Unfortunately their pivot was to a worse Reddit that highjacks external links :(

Went back to mostly 2D for the #gamedev stuff I've been working on. It's easier to draw the #art than to model and texture it (for me). Plus, I figured out how to get the grass rendering in front of the walls when I want it to. It looks crazy from the editor.

The switch to coloured lines works very well with the more muted tones in the new one! I'm a sucker for punchy black lines though.
