Parents! You have got to get your children off WhatsApp! Like me, you may have been thinking it is still just a fairly harmless messaging app...well it no longer is! Channels and locked groups have now made it impossible for parents to police. Please look at your child's WhatsApp and find out!

What is DLD? The little-known disorder as common as autism and dyslexia
Developmental language disorder is considered an invisible condition
As speech and language specialists, we know the impact DLD can have when left undiagnosed.

Chancellor must prioritise communication skills for 1.9 million children to secure long-term economic prosperity
We're very disappointed that the Chancellor didn’t address investing in speech, language and communication skills in the #SpringStatement.
These vital skills are crucial for youth employment and long-term economic growth.
Let's ensure they’re part of the Spending Review!

If the neurodivergence taskforce wants to make schools better for neurodivergent children, why aren’t the 1 million children with Developmental Language Disorder part of the conversation?😣
This is totally unacceptable!
Don't you agree, Department for Education? #TheForgottenMillion

A police officer’s thank you from the Rotherham riots
Our core role is to protect life and property, without fear or favour – and we do this as a community – so from the frontline of the Rotherham riots, some thank yous
Today saw Levi Fishlock jailed for 9yrs for his part in the summer riots, when he tried to set light to a hotel housing asylum seekers near Rotherham.
The disorder resulted in more than 60 police officers being injured too. This is one officer's response to being there that day.

Bluesky tips for #sbkySPEECHIES
1. If you’ve moved from the other place, don’t delete your account there. Even if you think you’re a nobody, someone (mischievous or malicious) may hijack your ID (use your @handle) and post awful things in your name.
2. Top tip from @irvinewelsh.bsky.social
BEFORE you start following people, add a profile picture and banner picture and fill out your bio. Then, “tweet” (i.e., post) 5-to-10 posts so people you know will recognise you.
3. Add a hashtag or two to your bio, maybe 🦋 #bskySPEECHIES .
4. Look for your tribe, beginning with “starter packs”. Search speech here https://blueskydirectory.com/starter-packs/
5. Alt text. In ⚙️Settings, go to Accessibility. ✔︎ Require alt text before posting.
6. Threads. In ⚙️ Settings go to Thread Preferences. ✔︎ Show replies in threaded view.
7. If you ❤️like a re-post it won’t show up in notifications. You’ll experience more acknowledgement and action if you quote-post or post.
8. Don’t feed the 👹trolls by replying-to or re-posting their stuff. Block. Leave them to stew in their own toxic juice.
9. Tell your TweepXs where you are!
10. My top tip. Interact! Start and/or continue conversations. Don’t just like ❤️…though that’s nice… comment on, react to, and augment others’ posts.
I have only been here since August 19, 2024, so there’s lots I don't know. It would be great if you quote posted this with your own hot tips!
