2025: you can't see DLD
Our theme this year is 'you can't see DLD.' So we asked people with DLD to show us things they like doing. And they are a creative and sporty bunch. We have ...
Because many people think that DLD is something people grow out of adults with DLD (Developmental Language Disorder) go unseen.
We are here to amplify their voices!

๐งตThe problem with removing labels (in any context), is that as soon as they go, there is no common language amongst professionals, across schools and other agencies.
Everyone starts talking at cross purposes and misunderstanding each other. Everything becomes muddled and confused.

You can't see DLD, and so many people's needs are missed. They go through life struggling, never knowing that there is a reason why things are so hard for them.

DLD is different in each child, but looking back many parents remember a time that their child's language stood out, like Nichole here who noticed her child struggling with literacy and spoken sentences.
This example is of a child, but it affects adults too.

'With early support and understanding, children and adults with DLD can absolutely thrive โ they just need the world to listen, learn and be aware', wrote Kayleigh Corbett mum of a child with DLD.
This #DLDday we are raising awareness of Developmental Language Disorder to make these words a reality

You can't see DLD (Developmental Language Disorder ) so what does it look like in the classroom?
DLD can look like ADHD but you'll also notice that children with DLD have difficulty using words and sentences and understanding, even when they are focussed.
