The original Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales are quite scary unlike eg Disney versions. In the 1960s and 70s an East German film of the story retitled “The Singing Ringing Tree” was shown a number of times on the BBC. It has been called “one of the most frightening things ever shown on children’s television” by M Hudson in the Daily Telegraph and in a poll for Radio Times the 20th spookiest TV shows ever.

If ever a new version of “The Singing Ringing Tree” (Hurleburlebutz by the Brothers Grimm) is made I think this tree should audition. A frightening TV program for children.(See AltText)
