Yesterday we worked on espagnole sauce on steak. I made mine with asparagus. Not gonna lie. It was really good. Today, though, that turned into a steak, asparagus, potato hash cooked in clarified butter. Not gonna lie. It was even better. Nothing like a flavorful, crispy (yet fluffy) potatoes.

I didn't know that hatch chili apple cobbler was a thing until @drtink.bsky.social and I made one last night. Now I need to eat it enough to make up for not having it for the first 52 of my life. I believe I can (and will) do it.

How can you tell the backpack of an adjunct? There's a pocket for tech, books, and teaching things; one for every adapter and cord imaginable; and a pocket for "personal items" for breaks and messes (snacks, extra clothing, disposable toothbrushes, laundry/hand wipes, aspirin, cards, etc.).

So, another silly admission. I am taking classes for the first time in decades, but I am pleased to report you can still get something akin to a trapper keeper. Another win for the old/young student in me.

I am 50+ years old. I have a Bachelors, Masters, and PhD. Heck, I have been teaching for 26 years. Yet . . . even now . . . I still get that same sense excitement as my six-year-old self when I load up my backpack the day before school starts.

There have been so many wonderful folx that are in the book and have supported us. All their time, effort, and belief is a true gift. It's so exciting that this has come together.

A much shorter version of a much longer post -- Jimmy Buffett taught me that you may start with living for the stories you can tell to anyone at a bar but you can go to living for the stories you want to tell to those you love at home.

What's my solution to finishing 8 and 5 week writing classes on the same day? Blanch and shock tomatoes, chop green peppers, onions, herbs, and spend two days nursing (and smelling) a wonderful sauce while grading. Added benefit! I get to knead pasta dough to get out any extra stress at the end.

Growing up my mom would make kuechen, which was basically a custard, breakfast pie with fruit. @drtink.bsky.social and I tried out an individual-sized version this morning. It turned out great.

Strands is particularly awesome today! NYT did something right for once.

What to do for date night when it's a bazillion degrees and the world is burning -- tomato-watermelon gazpacho with basil and (extra) jalapeno. The only heat comes from the date, not the cooking.

We made some super yummy chocolate tacos last night that had dark chocolate, ground toasted cinnamon, and ground toasted pasilla pepper. They were particularly yummy once we added some blueberries. YUM indeed!
