Decline, what decline? The myth of dying Europe There is a widespread view that, by comparison with the USA, Europe is in economic and social decline. But, Zucman argues, it's not true

The story of Europe’s economic decline while US is 'soaring' is everywhere.

But it is wrong. It is a myth.

Europe delivers more leisure, longer life expectancy, less inequality than the US.

Gabriel Zucman dismantles the myths.

Break Gender Stereotypes with Picture Books ft. Women in STEM While scrolling through social media, this graphic caught me eye.

“..it matters what stories we put in kids’ hands. Picture books that spotlight women in STEM help children expand their ideas about who scientists are, who they can be and where curiosity can lead.”

👇🏽 List of inspiring picture book biographies of women in STEM 📚

What you should know about constraints in PostgreSQL | xata.io by Gulcin Yildirim Jelinek In this blog, we explore Postgres constraints through the pg_constraint catalog, covering table vs. column constraints, constraint triggers, domains and more.

I wrote about Postgres constraints and covered deferrability concept and a few not-so-well-known gems like constraint triggers and domains 💎

EDB Postgres Distributed is a clustering and replication solution for Postgres. I wrote a quick new guide showing how to set up a three-node cluster on AWS, testing out replication, and demonstrating trivially deleting and recreating a node in the cluster.

My tech lead Petr just published a history of logical replication in Postgres, and the various offshoot projects and products that have come out of it. He has been part of these efforts since the beginning so his narration is particularly welcome.

I've been helping our analytics team integrate our DataFusion-based query engine for Postgres into EDB Postgres Distributed and finally here's an end-to-end demo.

You get HA Postgres plus seamless replication and DataFusion-based queries. This query turned out 6x faster than PG.

From Database Administrator to Database Agent by Gulcin Yildirim Jelinek Discover how a PostgreSQL DBA’s decade of expertise evolved into designing Xata’s AI-powered Postgres agent, automating monitoring and observability.

I started working with Postgres in 2012, when being a DBA meant manually tuning queries, planning upgrades and sitting with devs to write better SQL.

In this post, I share how those DBA lessons shaped the way we built an AI-powered Postgres agent at @xata.io and how things evolved.

Inspired by the post on HN yesterday about running graph queries on Postgres with recursive CTEs, my coworker installed the SQL/PGQ patches locally and ported all the examples to this native graph query language coming (eventually) to Postgres!

The image shows a presentation slide projected onto a screen. The slide features a SQL-inspired heading “Select * from me;” with lists of the speaker’s current and past roles. Current roles include “Staff Engineer at Xata,” “Postgres Contributor,” and various co-founder and coordinator roles related to PostgreSQL meetups, diversity initiatives, and conferences. Past roles include “Board Member at Postgres Europe” and “Staff Engineer at EDB, 2ndQuadrant.” Below the slide, a speaker, identified as Gulcin Yildirim Jelinek, stands behind a lectern with a laptop, delivering a talk titled “Anatomy of Table Level Locks in PostgreSQL.”

There are no actual lasers involved , they are infrared guns, with infrared sensors on vests.

That still sounds like an improvement over the IOS 17 where it feels less accurate than 20y old windows apps. Is there something that actually works well on iPhone?

I was invited to the @maintainable.bsky.social podcast hosted by @robbyrussell.bsky.social. We talked about what makes software maintainable and naturally we also talked about Postgres.

I shared some of the highlights of our conversation in my last blog post 👇🏽
