That's what I said to one Russian already. I pointed out that he, and the rest of Russia, don't have the first clue how a democracy works. Protest is part of democracy.

I have said the same thing. Even Nazis had better uniforms. This is just embarrassing.

I hate admitting it but yes to me it is very fun and I might even spend a whole weekend doing it which is very sad. It would be more meaningful if I could say "yeah, I'm a developer" but I'm not- I'm just a nerdy enthusiast.
09.05.2025 15:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And I have to mention that I use AI to determine which ones to use since AI can understand what op codes or whatever the file uses. So if something uses a bunch of loops then AI will say "well use this." But if it's heavy math stuff then it's going to give me a different answer.
09.05.2025 15:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I just learned that Ubuntu used -O3 and learn that in many cases it didn't speed things up at all and quite the opposite. So I do a combination of-O2 with two or three of the -O3 options. So I get the performance without the binary bulk but these also depend on what operations the file uses.
09.05.2025 15:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I probably have to mention, or should have mentioned in my original post, that building these applications for performances probably more educational value than anything. I could swear my games are running smoother though but it could be my imagination too. I'm really bad at actually benchmarking it
09.05.2025 15:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Firefox went something like this then the mozconfig:
09.05.2025 15:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh interesting. I can show you my build command but it has LTO. I don't do the deep performance tuning where you run it and it records the performance and then later optimizes it. What is that like a two pass thing then you compile it again I don't know.
09.05.2025 15:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But right now I'm very happy with just compiling the very key components like Mesa and everything that makes Mesa fast under the hood. It's kind of a nice balance because other system files I don't really think need to be so fine-tuned but I agree with you.
09.05.2025 14:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I did compile Firefox also and steam proton but photon uses a container and within that container is a really old tool chain. I asked the developers if there was a newer container somewhere and he kind of barked at me saying it would make everything incompatible. Well okay. That's how it goes
09.05.2025 14:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes, and that's the obvious choice but years ago I tried to install it and it crashed during the install process. After I kind of reviewed some of the libraries and they were a little outdated as well as the tool chain but this may have all changed since then.
09.05.2025 14:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This past week or so, I compiled the following on Linux. The result? I think it gave the PC a boost. Noticeable? I guess but it was just fun. #Linux
kernel
zlib
liblz4
zstd
SPIR-V Headers
SPIR-V Tools
glslanglib
SPIR-V translator
Cairo
libDRM
libva VA-API (Video Acceleration API)
Mesa
libglvnd
