For those who haven't played, it's essentially a sequel to Tryptic. I had only 2 rules for myself while making it:
1. Simply complex.
2. Don't let the player die.

Fans of any Romance of the Three Kingdoms games: What is your favorite ROTK or similar style game? I played ROTK 3: Dragon of Destiny as a kid, and I recently grabbed the SNES version and I'm enjoying it a lot. More recent versions aren't rated well so curious what other good ones are out there!

After doing this for years, I've learned a lot and taken some courses, and recognized my own style, so creating a module that is tailored specifically for my way of doing things makes things so much faster. I may not DO things in the best way possible, but it works for me 😅

Beyond Mawthorne 1 Reborn being my final redemption arc, it was also an experiment using my own custom module in NESmaker to see if it would help me make games quicker and more efficiently... and it does 👍

Oh I agree, I've always hated that tagline, it was a straight up lie lol. And it definitely confused people.

You're right tho. It's obviously okay to ask questions and learn, but some people come off as "give me the finished code that makes this work like I want" That rubs me the wrong way.

The community itself, mostly Facebook and Discord. People are still helpful which is nice, but it feels much colder in general - more about attention whoring, people wanting things done for them rather than learning. Momentum is also poor but I expect that at this point lol

Any of my fellow NESmakers feel like the NESmaker community has kind of... gotten worse? It's not BAD, but it's definitely worse than it once was, and it casually annoys me. Perhaps most of the cool devs have moved away and I've been around too long. Or I'm old and I just complain about things 😅

Quite a library we're building up, eh?

For anyone want to experience Mawthorne 1, especially with the release of 2, I want there to be a genuinely fun experience for that: hence Mawthorne 1 Reborn. It's a mix of the original game with new mechanics, gameplay that is smoother and just more fun. It's something I felt like needed to be done

In short Mawthorne was too big a game for me to make at the time. I had a handle on what I was doing but I wasn't doing it well. For the time it was the best I could do, but now I can do better. I'm embarrassed to present Mawthorne now as it originally is, so I wanted to make up for that...

For some clarity to the inevitable question, "why make a remake when you could make Mawthorne 3??", it's for both personal and non-personal reasons...
Shera had it's shortcomings from my inexperience, so I did a remake of that, and Mawthorne was my first BIG game, and had it's own shortcomings...

It is time to reveal my next game: Mawthorne 1 Reborn, a remake of my original Mawthorne game, completely remade in Mawthorne 2's engine for a better and smoother experience. I'm planning a small physical release later this year!

Its very bare and confusing at times, its easy to get lost or get screwed over. Like because of the character I picked at the start, I just skip many areas and hours of the game, and now I'm very under leveled for where I need to go.

Been playing 7th Saga for the first time. It's both interesting and terrible 😅

Oddly, I looked into this a couple years ago, because I had an idea of selling "booster packs" of various homebrew games. Like trading cards with game characters with each pack having 1 game (the rare card). I got a lot of tools and things, but ultimately the limiting game size made me give it up.
