I've been making this point to friends but to work in animation requires highly specialized technical knowledge and that alone is reason to demand higher wages. In any other industry, salaries would START at $100,000 for what we're required to know and do*.

Not me having a whole break down with statistics that show that even though acquisitions of BIPOC books went up since 2020, bestsellers by BIPOC have gone WAY DOWN. Because it's not enough to just acquire, when they don't support no one actually hears about or reads the books!

This is incredibly true, and it's why one of the most important things for me in publishing is *not* just the question of training work using my input; it's the question of publishers using actual human editors.
