The repeated willful misreading of what you actually wrote by said reply guy is quite astounding.

If @bsky.app introduced something so asinine, I would be off this app in an instant. Unless "Zen" here describes some feature that is connected to the actual practice of Zen Buddhism.

...My honest, non-trolling advice to JD Vance is that heโ€™d be a much happier person if he showed a little humility.

JD Vance has had such a good life in this country. Itโ€™s been overwhelmingly kind and gracious to him. Itโ€™s given him an Ivy education, a bestseller, and 10 million USD to his name. He is far wealthier than most. Yet he goes on petty tirades against anyone with legitimate critiques of his work...

Koizumi is riding on his brother's popularity and his father's legacy.

Takaichi seems to generally hold her opinions very close, but I suspect she's much more xenophobic than she lets on. The Nara deer incident strikes me as an extremely mild version of her actual opinion.

I mean, the gunshot detector also picks up engine backfires, fireworks, construction noise, balloon pops, breaking glass, slamming doors, etc. Can you imagine how many times it sends out a false alert in a city?

Unfortunately, I can, since I mistakenly installed Citizen after three building fires.

Cool cool. They've made it super easy to drop Paramount+ from my subscriptions.

I'm confused. This seems like either a first grader's awkward attempt at humor or an announcement for a Cinco de Mayo special at a local Chi-Chi's.

Dude is telling the military to be literal inhumane war criminals on the public record.

NOGUCHIโ€™S MIDWESTERN MOONSCAPE: From Magic Chef To A U-Haul Center A landmark ceiling in St. Louis, Missouri.

Years ago, I lived in St. Louis just off Kingshighway. I had a storage unit at a U-Haul that had a hidden Isamu Noguchi ceiling. When I was there, you could only glimpse it in the elevator lobby, but it has since been restored.

They warned us that although 4 weeks was longer than usual, it could be much much worse. I hadn't heard of 2.5 years, but they did tell us about 1.5 year juries. Your sister's situation sounds so hard.

I believe 23 is normal. The one I served on was 23. But we served for four weeks and heard some sixty-odd cases. Not everyone was there every day, but as long as we had quorum, we could hear cases.

But as you listen to case after case, you start to sense where important info is missing. You can ask the DA questions, but they often dismiss them as immaterial. So you know you are making a half-baked guess as to whether the case has merit. I used to think GJ indictments meant more than they do.

Oh, God, flashbacks to Grand Jury duty. That was the most painfully eye opening experience. HS civics classes did not prepare me for how limited the info is that you get in GJ. Barring some extraordinary circumstances (one of the sixty-odd cases I heard), you only hear the prosecution's view.

Oh, saw these ads, or something similar (the box, color scheme, and message were definitely the same) a few months back in LA.

Electoral Meeting The 29-part photo series, "Electoral Meeting" - March 6, 1975 is a relevant example for Ion Grigorescuโ€™s approaches both to the outer world and to his artistic mission โ€ฆ

I often think about those photographs these days, wondering how far off we are from such displays.

Years ago I oversaw a residency exchange program with partners in Eastern Europe. One partner was in Romania, and when we went to visit Bucharest, there was an exhibition of photographs by Ion Grigorescu from a 1975 "electoral meeting" where people had to confirm their support of Ceauศ™escu.

I, too, don't believe murder is ever the answer, but this call to "continue his work" is totally inappropriate. This was a person who cheered on violence against his ideological opponents.

All you had to do was say "violence is not the answer," but instead you turn him into the saint he never was.

He has no excuse for this awful rhetoric. He's a full decade older than me, so he DEFINITELY remembers what happened with the Challenger Shuttle. That o-ring leaked because safety wasn't prioritized. The meaning of gambling on safety in exchange for another potential moon landing are not abstract.

I had a long talk with a Japanese friend who thought Newsome was so great discussing all the harm he's done in CA. She was shocked. She regularly reads US news as she worked for an extension of the US embassy for many years, but had heard none of the issues I brought up about his policies.

????????? I know this is a sentence, but the words put together in this way do not form a comprehensible thought. There is no circumstance in which Trump's actions in LA did anything other than make life here discernably worse.

I was waiting to read that they banned the Bible since, as my 10th grade Western Lit teacher proclaimed, the number one lesson from that book is that sex makes the world go 'round. Amusingly, this individual was also a Sunday School teacher at a local Reformed Christian church.

Translation: Dude who is so ungrateful to everything he's ever been given that he sells out his friends and family to bow down to the guy he used to say was like Hitler in order to gain some modicum of power somehow thinks he has the right to criticize others about showing gratitude.

I wish this country had tried harder to learn the lessons of Hurricane Katrina. Instead, we turned a blind eye and now find ourselves headed back to the every-man-for-himself days of the old Wild West.

I really can't believe it's been 20 years. I still remember the shock of the TV images of water pouring into the city.

I learned so much from this disaster about the corruption of various levels of government and the economic/insurance systems that have, predictably, led us into a darker future.
