UPDATE: The NYT heard my criticism—or else came to the conclusion on its own that it had made a journalistic error—and fixed this op-ed title, which previously said that Donald Trump had _already_ successfully changed the names of these locations (which in fact he does not have the authority to do).

As for the subhed of the op-ed, there's a word missing.

We can't have a functioning democracy if we _reflexively_ think our opponents are evil.

But by the same token, Megan, we can't have a functioning democracy if we're unwilling to educate ourselves on whether our opponents are set on evil ends.
