Is there perhaps more to say on indoor air and environmental factors?

A very clear explanation of where we are [spoiler alert - it's not good news]. Worth your time to watch.

Thanks for namechecking @inclusivenew.bsky.social's INN the Arts Group's coproduced good practice framework for safety from airborne infection in the arts (DM for a copy). I certainly can't take all the credit! Looking forward to Serina's play - remarkable for itself modelling good practice.

nb that should say I brought a CO2 monitor with me to the Parliament, though I guess I did bring my own CO2 as well, given I breathe it out like everyone else does πŸ˜‚

6/6 At 1500ppm there's already evidence of clear impairment in strategic thinking, problem solving, and information use. Something politicians may care to reflect on - in a well-ventilated room!

5/6 Indoor air quality was good in the entrance foyer & outside the Committee room when we arrived but OMG 😱 by the end of the first part of the session in the Committee room it was 1802ppm! Very high - well above the 800ppm/ 1000ppm recommended max.

4/6 I took CO2 readings at the Parliament, having been assured "our mechanical ventilation is maintained in accordance with all relevant requirements and monitored by our Facilities Management team. Ongoing monitoring and maintenance ensure a good supply of fresh air is maintained in the building.".

3/6 True, there’s little time pre-election but they could’ve written to the Minister to ask if/how people with specialist expertise in airborne infection & lived experience of clinical vulnerability to airborne infection had been involved in developing the forthcoming infection prevention strategy πŸ€”

2/6 As expected, they did close it ('reluctantly’), said it was an important issue and urged me to resubmit it after the election [I will, or one very like it].

Me outside the Scottish Parliament - head and shoulders visible, wearing a respiratory mask, in a wheelchair, sat in front of a sign saying Scottish Parliament Public Entrance and a big arrow pointing to the left.

1/6 This morning, I attended the Citizen Participation and Public Petitions Committee to learn the fate of my petition calling for protection from airborne infections in health and social care settings. I went armed with a few protections/ visual aids myself – mask, portable HEPA and CO2. 🧡

Great article πŸ™! Agree you can't speak truth to power if power controls your words but more importantly you can't speak it to the powerless on whose acquiescence their power is built. The powerful already know what they're doing (so don't need us to point it out). The powerless don't.

It would make such a difference if @who.int started following the science on facemasks (currently fighting this battle in Scotland). The resistance has to be political because the science is extremely clear. Thank you for initiating this and to all who signed. Good luck! Fingers crossed they listen.

It's easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless in these incredibly difficult times, but there's so much individuals can do to make a difference locally, on protection from airborne infections, & to build new connections and communities. Come & find out more, share your ideas & experiences πŸ‘‡

In a world full of much ugly cruelty and injustice, I wish you courage and kindness in 2026. May we never forget that there is love and beauty to be found in this world too. Here are some images for you from a calendar I made for my mum, with photos I've taken over the year, to remind myself.

May I ask if pre-existing clinical damage is also a factor? I mean if there's cumulative damage of many kinds from previous reinfections, there'd presumably be less tolerance even to slight additional damage, even if the immune system itself were strengthened, not itself damaged by Covid. πŸ™

One of my 'Star of Silver Linings' cards for everyone as exasperated as me by the total inability of Govts to grasp that good indoor air quality & respiratory masks is how to stop the NHS falling apart each Winter. Wishing you festive things & silver linings despite the cloudy forecast for 2026.

Thanks BBC Radio Scotland Breakfast Programme for the opportunity to talk about why following the science, wearing a mask, & cleaning the air to help avoid you & others getting horribly ill with flu is a better idea than not doing that. Starts approx 7.05 minutes in www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
