3 Lessons for a Regional Western Electricity Market - Legal Planet
California is paving the way for the creation of an independent regional organization to oversee Western energy markets. It can learn from mistakes made in other regions.
With California inching toward the creation of an independent regional organization to oversee Western energy markets, here are 3 things it should learn from mistakes made in other regions, writes my @uclalawemmett.bsky.social colleague Elias Van Emmerick. legal-planet.org/2025/10/28/3...

Newsom's been in bed with the utilities for so long. PG&E is one of his top campaign donors. There's no way he would actually denounce utilities and put blame on them. We need people in office who will STATE THE OBVIOUS and hold the people at fault ACCOUNTABLE for their actions, inaction, and CRIMES

California Passes Law Lowering Energy Bills and Protecting Californians from Utility Misbehavior
The California Ratepayer Protection Act (AB 1167) prevents utilities from forcing customers to pay for utility lobbying and advertising costs
Great news: California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the California Ratepayer Protection Act, which prevents for-profit utilities like PG&E and SoCalGas from forcing customers to pay for political lobbying and promotional ads.
This will lower energy bills for Californians - a big win!

Refineries and poorly managed power #Grids cause devastation, both environmentally and/or economically. #Microgrids that utilize #Renewables don't seem to have these issues, and also tend to produce a lot more energy than needed! Food for thought.

"Energy Fact Check" Account going after organizations that care more about people and the environment over a paycheck...
PG&E spent $3.6 million on state lobbying in 2024 alone.
If we're going to call out lobbying, "factually", why don't you call out those who spend more to screw people over?

Utility Tax was such a shitty bill that legislators had to author AB 1999 just to try and combat it. Like many other times in the California Legislature, the utilities got their way.

NEM 3.0 gets another day in court
The California Supreme Court on August 7 unanimously ruled that a lower court must revisit its earlier decision upholding NEM 3.0, according to nonprofit

Why is Gov. Gavin Newsom blocking rooftop solar in California?
Follow the money.
It's no surprise that Newsom has been in cahoots with the utilities in an attempt to rid California of rooftop solar, but it's interesting to see a deep-dive into what he's done and how it's been done in order to stave off solar and other renewables in CA. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

We may have won the battle with AB942's loss, but there's still a war to fight. Our current utility model, upheld by the Utilities' ideal of a corporatocracy, is tyrannical and corrupt. Fighting bills like AB942 in the legislature are step one, but to win. We need true reform of the system!

A big thanks to everyone on the #Senate Energy, Utilities, and Communications Committee for getting the bill amended to the point where its 'reformation of NEM' will not affect rooftop solar customers.

AB942 was effectively defeated in the California Senate Energy, Utilities, and Communications Committee yesterday!
#AB942 would have broken over 2 million #Solar contracts in the state of California, and was watered down in committee yesterday to not include rooftop solar customers!

If you support or even believe in solar, help the idea of #Renewables succeed by letting your local Senator know about AB942's negative effects and ulterior motives. AB942 is not an affordability bill, it is an avenue for the demagogues of the current utility model to DESTROY solar in California.

Even though #Solar is fighting daily battles in #California against the #Utilities and utility-sided LEGISLATORS, it has continued to prove itself time and time again. Bills like #AB942 plan to uproot the solar #Industry by directly affecting those who use #SolarEnergy.
