Just one of the white bronze statues on the property. This one,"Remembrance" was erected by Ruth Newey Smith in memory of her mother, Betsey, her father, Micah and her sisters Betsey, Charlotte and Augusta.

Back to some history: In 1832, the Congregationalist bought the Episcopal Methodists out of their share of the building and used it exclusively until their current church was built further east on Main Street.

2 of the many headstones that were tended to this past year: Albert and Catherine Wicks. Albert's was reset and Catherine's was found next to her brother under several inches of soil.

By 1832, the Baptists no longer worshipped at The Union Church but opted to worship in congregants private homes until a church was built for them by The Smith Sisters on land owned by Charlotte Smith Keech. It's unclear if they ever used that building as they currently don't acknowledge this ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

December Headstone of Note: Fanny Dains Born December 3rd, 1793, Fanny is buried very close to where The Union Church stood; her family might well have been among the very first congregants there. She was the second wife of Thomas Danes (note variant spelling), and mother of Charlotte Danes who died before she was a year old. Fanny died on the 3rd of February, 1816. Her brownstone marker was in pieces and was professionally restored this past year by Stewart Preservation. Since brownstone is a sedimentary rock, it is prone to flaki

Three congregations, the Baptists, the Congregationalist and the Episcopal Methodist shared the building until 1832. Not sure what happened to the Presbyterians... moved to Brookhaven maybe...still looking into that....

That picture is of the one that replaced the original that was erected quickly and was reported to let the snow in. This building stood on that corner until the early 1960's
