i cradle my torn open crate of hard mountain dew as if it's an infant i pretend the jangling, cold, cardboard box is you as a child. which is as disrespectful as it is pathetic. i can't really find a twist on this. i tend to spin the angle when i write about you, so cloying, voyeuristic vultures don't pick apart my memories of you. they become sycophants and attend to me in flaccid mawkish cooing. but it's wholly depressing. in this moment i feel wonder. awe. the sublime laid out before me in the most miasmic infinity a twilight midwestern sky can muster. but my constant sight for the present as the presented can tell this is not a moment of romance. this is incredibly sad. some drunken transsexual wandering in stumbles through a golf course. drinking herself into purposefully hazardous stupors. pretending the wry medicine she clings to is a recently dead friend. murdered by the insurmountable ennui crowding her heart. i look up at the sky and stay my slewing body long enough to let it come to focus. above, there's stars forming. etched into the deep, churning lapis ebbing and flowing above. specks of white littering the cosmic sea. distant fires, violent enough to be seen even eons apart. people like stars. maybe even those vultures will see the romance. maybe they can be touched by this wonder too. maybe they'll somehow miss you. even if they cant feel the roiling beauty. those light fantastic circles stirring the air around your name.
