We're bringing back to light an old estimate from @esri.ie to offer a possible answer: in January 2010, only 5% of the global vegetarian population chose the diet by preference.

Great question - especially since secondary sources online disagree. In 2023:

🔸 @gallup.com found equal vegetarian rates (5%) in both 18-29 and 65+ groups.
🔸 Livestrong.com confirmed 5% for younger adults but noted a decline with age, dropping to just 1% for 55+.
