AI-powered police body cameras, once taboo, get tested on Canadian city's 'watch list' of faces Police in Edmonton, Canada, have started a pilot project using AI-equipped body cameras to detect faces on a "high risk" watch list.

β€œβ€¦six years after leading body camera maker Axon Enterprise, Inc. said police use of facial recognition technology posed serious ethical concerns, the pilot project β€” switched on last weekβ€” is raising alarms far beyond Edmonton, the continent’s northernmost city of more than 1 million people.”

Most discussions about β€œmisinformation” treat the problem as if people simply don’t have good enough critical-thinking skills. It sounds intuitive, but it’s not entirely accurate. The problem isn’t just individual ignorance, it’s the structure of the information environment people are placed into.

Our digital systems reward belonging over accuracy, with people gaining status by aligning with their group, not by checking facts. Once beliefs become tied to identity, more media literacy won’t shift behaviour, the social rewards run against work against it.

This Alberta pediatrician captures something clinicians everywhere feel but rarely articulate this clearly:

Systems fail in patterned ways.
Families absorb the cost.
Governments sell β€œchoice” while walking away from their duties.

Worth your time:

New rule: no more wasting my time using my ship to mine ROC or hand mineables.

She’s a good ship, still brought me home, so I ought to treat her better. #StarCitizen

I also upgraded my Vanguard to an Apollo Medivac, hated it, melted it and bought back my beloved Vanguard πŸ˜‚. Spent the extra credit on a couple of paints I can’t get in-game.

My only reasoning for changing it would be because it has a minimum crew of 4, and I don’t know what I was thinking when I got it other than it looks amazing and should make a good explorer lol. But it was a much smaller ship then, more like the Carrack (which is still huge).

I was tempted to upgrade the BMM to an Odyssey, but it would upset me greatly when I then would be tempted to pay again to upgrade the Odyssey to a BMM πŸ˜‚

Still debating a Nomad to Wolf variant upgrade before the option disappears for me. No big spending planned.

That’s a nice collection. I spent much of my fleet money early on and I’ve let most of it ride, buying little things or upgrading things along the way. I didn’t have little kids eating through all my gaming budget back then lol. But I have no regrets, I know a lot of console gamers that spend more.

It’s funny, I too get a C2 as a loaner for my BMM. But, I also get a Defender which I must say is pretty neat.

In any case, I hope you enjoy it. What a great ship to have this year with two star systems coming online!

But it’s a bigger ship and their roles (to this point) are quite different? … that’s pretty cool though!
