Something to get me going in between chapters of A Tale of Two Cities: A Little Book of Language by David Crystal. The illustrations are great ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ“š #linguistics

That makes a lot of sense, thank you!

Interesting... Does every dialect have a corresponding sign language? Or just every country? Or do sign languages cross political borders?

Read your favorite book for the millionth time. Read something new you know nothing about. Stop reading a book you donโ€™t vibe with after 20 pages. Read every book only once never to revisit it.

However you choose to read is the right way. Donโ€™t let anyone tell you otherwise.

fun language fact nobody cares about

bulgarian has 4 different forms of evidentiality grammatically baked into verbs

it is the only indo-european language with more than 2

also, along with handful of indigenous and amazonian languages on the verge of extinction, the only one with more than 3

Exactly. I think it would be great, in the future, to read your own book journal and muse about your feelings on the books you read... but having to actually *do the thing* is discouraging

I think so. It seems to be fairly common, or maybe people just take about them a lot on Instagram and YouTube. It looks like this or something similar

I am currently reading A Tale of Two Cities. I have also read The Iliad and The Odyssey, but I can't say I have enjoyed them, so I'd start with Dickens ๐Ÿ˜Š

Yes, the ones you write in. Recording title, author, your thoughts on the book, quotes, etc

It gets better, really ๐Ÿ˜ it helps when the little ones turn out to be readers too!

Ooff, I could barely read when they were babies. Goodreads is very helpful, indeed!

I'm looking for opinions re: reading journals. In theory I love them, but it feels like a reading-adjacent thing that distracts from the actual reading. I think I feel too old for something that belongs to my daughters' generation, maybe. Has anyone ever started one after a lifetime of reading? ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ“š

THANK YOU, can I quote you on this to support my point?

"Frankenstein is the name of the doctor"

no it isn't! Victor Frankenstein is a college dropout who left the University of Ingolstadt without a doctorate.
