Way too many books I’m currently reading on the bookshelf by my bed:
From Eternity To Here (Sean Carroll), Gehen, Ging, Gegangen (Jenny Erpenbeck), Means and Ends (Zoe Baker), Boltzmann: The Man Who Trusted Atoms (Cercignani), Time’s Arrow and Archimedes’ Point (Huw Price), Thought In A Hostile World (Kim Sterelny), Darwin’s Unfinished Symphony (Lala), and Beyond the Brain (Louise Barrett).
Live footage of me biting off way more than I can chew. Glad my holiday is coming up. :)

Small pile of books, top to bottom:
Steven Erikson - Deadhouse Gates
Gwendolyn Brooks - Maud Martha
Isabella Hammad - Enter Ghost
Bruce Levine - The Spirit of 1848
Pile of ‘currently reading’. Started Maud Martha this morning - what s lovely little book.

Picture of my TV showing the chess being aired - Gleb Dudin vs Magnus Carlsen in round 3 of the world rapid championship.
Probably the best part of living in Norway is the fact that you get the world rapid and blitz chess championships live on TV every single Christmas. An anchor the last 10 years to totally disconnect during the holiday period. Thanks Magnus!

Snapshot from p. 245 in the Penguin edition of Angela Carter‘s collected short stories, from the story „The Kiss“. Lots of text describing Samarkand, including stuff that „ensorcellate the eye“. 👁️
Reading Angela Carter is always exciting because you‘re sure to learn new words or encounter a turn of phrase that inevitably stops you in your tracks. „Ensorcellate the eye.“ I love it.

Snippet of the text, p. 84.
Something like the 5th time that Gilgamesh now recites this self-pitying stuff about Enkidu, his poor now-dead best friend. Though it truly is sad (truly), I‘m now hearing Tony Soprano in my head going „ok but you gotta get ovah it“.

Snapshot of the book, p. 70 of the Norton Critical Edition of the epic. Gilgamesh responds to Shamash:
After my restless roaming in the steppe
There will be ample repose, deep in the earth,
I shall surely lie asleep all the years (to come)
For now, let my eyes see the sun, let me have all the light I could ever want,
Darkness is infinite, how little light there is is!
When may the dead see the radiance of the sun?
The Epic of Gilgamesh. Amazing reading experience. This little passage somehow reminded me of a Dostoevsky passage I like: „I can see the sun, but even if I cannot see the sun, I know that it exists. And to know that the sun is there - that is living.“

Concert stage, Thom Yorke and his manbun :)
From Radiohead‘s visit to Oslo in 2017. Phenomenal concert. Good memories.

Café table with two books, Lagoon by Nnedi Okorafor, and The Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki. Plus Christmasy coffee cup.
Taking some time off to just exist elsewhere for a bit.

Iced, snowy road lined with withering trees; view from my office.
Back at the office and my reading spot, ready for 6 months of cold, darkness, and vitamin D supplements.

Picture of my very beautiful Furch acoustic guitar.
Finally back home, jetlagged, picking some Nick Drake at 3:20 am. Things are OK.
