The 90-in-180-day problem isn’t the fault of the EU 🇪🇺.

It’s just something that’s happened over time (and has made Brexit feel much worse for those most acutely impacted).

That’s why we’re encouraging politicians in the UK to rethink their approach to international mobility in our continent.

So what do we mean by the 90-in-180-day problem?

1. We don’t mean the total number of days is necessarily the problem.

The problem is the control period of 180 days, the fact it has to be shared across 29 different countries and the fact it is not a per-visit allowance.

1. Did you know that some third countries have special historic bilateral agreements that give their citizens additional time in the Schengen zone.

Undoubtedly.

Same for all the EU citizens living in the UK too. They should have had the same voting rights as Commonwealth Citizens from Ireland, Malta, Cyprus, India, Australia, South Africa …and more!

We’d have picked number 4.

But 2 or 3 would have been better than number 1.

If Starmer spent less time obsessing about Reform and more time focusing on how to mitigate or undo the damage of Brexit then I think things would start to feel much better in the UK.

Yes that’s the problem.

That’s why Brits need to stand up for the rights and freedoms that have been taken away from them.

They won’t magically reappear unless people become more vocal.

The solutions to the 90-in-180 day problem are many and varied. Politicians really have **no** excuse for inaction.

Any of the following provide models for solutions or are solutions in themselves…

If you run a pro EU starter pack or anything related to freedom of movement I would very much welcome being included in it because I am trying to reach more people about European mobility.

And same for @savefom.bsky.social too.

It’s certainly falls a long way short of what people need, young and old.

This is deliberate. They want to make us believe visas are normal

Immigration is only toxic because it is understood to include illegal arrivals and refugees.

Most types of immigration and approved/desired and happens because they issue visas.

7. So if you care about mobility in Europe then you need to keep posting, commenting, tweeting and retweeting. You also need to engage your MP too. Giving up is not an option if you actually want change to happen.

6. If you don’t care about EU citizens paying £16 to visit the UK, well then it will likely continue.

5. If you’re not that bothered about paying 20€ to visit EU countries, then guess what: they will realise that you’ll accept these fees.
