The creator of Erasmus, Sofia Corradi from Italy has died aged 91. She was known as "Mama Erasmus".

Erasmus changed my life in very unimaginable ways. It was the beginning of my European journey back in 1991.

Thank you Mama Erasmus ♥️

It's really very simple. The *only* guarantor of our rights is the EU. The UK can't even guarantee the rights of UK citizens as they have no meaningful constitutional protections against a 50%+1 parliament 🤷‍♀️ If the UK keeps failing as it has since 2015 there's no future here that's worth staying for

🤔 so how is Putin going to fly there without crossing into EU airspace of other countries or be target-practice for Ukraine?

Remember folks. The original bluesky ethos by us bluesky elders (apparently I count?) is block and move on.

Don't quote dunk, don't pick fights.
Block, and move on.

This is what made this site unpalatable to the right early on, and we can continue to make it unpalatable to them.

I've supported the #EU as a concept for decades. My whole life really.
I have a British and German background. My family fought on opposite sides of WW2.

For me, the EU always meant the healing of that divide.

It feels even more important now.

Rogan is an example, with is "have a heart" call, of folks trying to extract themselves from the damage done by the problem of which they were, and still are, a part. People like MJT and Joe Rogan, shouldn't "this isn't what we meant" the current situation but atone. You and I know they never will.

When it's up to me, open internal-borders deserve being enshrined in memberstate constitutions in addition to being part of Europran treaties. They're too precious to be left to the whims of simple majorities and shoddy referendums.

ii) Those who seek to bring back borders *always* have border-disputes on their menu as well. The Orbans of Europe want closed tightly guarded borders, but also eye-up territory of their neighbours for inclusion into their own. They 'll make us war over what we can visit peacefully today.

Two things I keep coming back to that only the EU's internal, open, borders could solve: i) Europe holds many non-nationstate nations that live across nation-state borders like Sami, Sorbs, Roma, Basques, Elsas-Lotharingians, Westphalians, Frisians, etc, and for them open borders are existential.

use, utility, and dangers of it, academia would remain impactless on AIs future-development, and we would fail to train students how to manage their work & ethics in a world in which AI will surround them everywhere but in the classroom. This is so obviously wrong, it shouldn't even be considered.

But most importantly, banning AI from academia, though impossible to enforce, comes across as a purity-competition for an academic in-crowd, while leaving the wider public who fund academic research exposed to the wolves-of-AI. If a ban were succesful, academia would be left speechless regarding the

Transparency of AI use and a thoroughly critical attitude towards its outputs should be made good practice. Of course, journals should develop editorial policies concerning whether they allow such submissions and how they referee those ... they'd be doing something useful for once.

sufficiently critical towards the output of such tools, and other similar, but independent, tools are used for critical verification. You don't cite papers based on what you take from their Google-scholar abstracts, but you find the damn thing & read it first.

A bit like most folks watching Netflix having no idea how the platform, or their tv-set actually works, nor know how the algorithm works that puts together their menu. How many researchers using Google or Google-scholar do *actually* know how those work? It is not a problem as long as that usage is

Basically, almost all search-engines would qualify as "political technologies" but trying to ban their use in education and research would be fruitless at least, and counter-productive at worst. Plenty of researchers use "black box tools" of which they hold imprecise beliefs on how they work.

This is an interesting post, and I share many of the authors' concerns. But I also see little chance of changing researchers' behaviour by banning the use of AI. Unlike what this contribution suggests, there is no sharp dividing between what qualifies as a "tool" and what as "political technology".

This story reads like the winning entry in a challenge to pack everything that's wrong with corporate culture into 1,000 words, and to throw in a couple of quick asides about how easy it is for the wealthy to corrupt democratic oversight while you're at it. Profoundly grim.
