If you are upset about the WP layoffs and the billionaire takeover of the press, consider cancelling your Amazon Prime membership and stop giving them so much business. It took us a while to adjust from the convenience of it when we quit but it was worth it.

I joined an anti-ICE protest on a bridge today in East Lansing. There were ~10 of us, some who just saw and joined in like me. We got so many supportive honks, waves, & 👍s and also someone gave us donuts!

💯 it feels very jarring to be so happy & having so much fun with my preschooler, and then like everything else.

Cool new work from Sophie Buysee w/ @jeffreykconner.bsky.social on how different Arabidopsis thaliana populations respond to drought.

There's also one where all the various spidermen and other marvel characters are kids, who can also turn into dinosaurs. It's amazing.

I get one lecture for this in my genetics class and do mutation -> migration -> drift -> selection. I start with mutation because that's where all variation starts & spend the most time on drift. My students have already learned HWE so I skip it.

Or even Uber/Lyft. Growing up, my neighbors and my parents would always give each other rides to the airport, but I'd never ask my current neighbors for this when I could take an Uber.

Also that you don't need a community -- why ask a friend for help with code or grammar or paper suggestions etc when you can just consume this product?

Seriously. At least the scantron-scanning office (I love them) has figured out how to generate a csv that can be downloaded and immediately uploaded to the next system.

It's wild to me that the official instructions for getting grades from MSU's course management system to the registrar website involves sorting two spreadsheets, copy-pasting a column from one to the other, and I guess, crossing your fingers it all worked?

Yeah I totally get this and I'm sorry if my comments came across as blaming the students -- I don't at all and I making my course accessible for all is an important part of my job, I just wish I had the support to do a better job of it.

To be clear, if the exam is 1.5 hours, we are required to find a room and staff to ensure that a student with 2x time can have 3 hours to take the exam.
