It looks like it’s their normal behavior towards winter! I’ve seen many cases where they lying down and buried under the snow, overwintering. Unless the stem gets completely dried down (appearing brown), your Opuntia should be fine!

I was mounting some algae specimens and the collection manager found this tiny brittle star (correct me if I’m wrong!) πŸ₯Ή so cute but couldn’t stop thinking about this poor thing suffered in a dryer ;(

Love me some Peperomia leaf cross sections. Look at that chonky epidermis*!

*I don't know off the top of my head if this succulent tissue is really derived from epidermis or ground tissue, but I always thought epi. Either way it's juicy.
