That was actually my MAIN worry before I started it. Parrying is super rewarding but pretty much anything that can be parried can also be dodged with a slightly longer window of opportunity. Plus the game's auto save is really good so you don't go too far back if you die and can learn boss mechs.

Expedition 33 has reached the level of enjoyment for me that growing up with Final Fantasy has.
I'm constantly blown away by how wonderful this game is.
