Academic friends: I’m teaching a course on Ethnography this fall. I was on sabbatical last year, so I haven’t taught it in 2 years. Do you have any recommendations for recent book length ethnographies I should include?
Many thanks in advance.

Migrants in Germany are overrepresented in vital job sectors including food production, construction, care work and others. #Destatis via @zdfde.bsky.social #Migration.
The German economy would collapse in many sectors without migration. Some political parties struggle to accept that reality.
Thread - I've been thinking a lot about Walter Lippmann’s Public Opinion lately, especially in the context of Musk’s role in dismantling the federal workforce through DOGE. It’s a perfect example of what Lippmann warned about over a century ago.

Also only party to not campaign on anti-immigration but to focus on affordable rent and cost of living
The German Christian Democratic Party's "5-Point Plan" on migration and border control was passed by 348 to 345 votes a few minutes ago. For the first time since the end of the Nazi regime, a proposal has been passed with the support of a right-wing party's votes.
A dark day for Germany.
Immigration doesn't increase crime (overall/average).
But regularising unauthorised migrants does *reduce* crime.

As tax revenues and local budgets shrink due to long‐term decline, foundations emerged as crucial entities with significant power to shape local action. They offer much‐needed resources, and thus inhibit great power in shaping local action in places struggling with the effects of decline.

As a result of long‐term decline and limited municipal budgets, local non‐governmental actors, including refugees themselves, have been found to play important roles alongside regional and national foundations in shaping arrival in the cities under investigation. /3
