A large Regency house. Two sisters named Emilia and Charlotte talk on an upper floor.
"Mister Blackwell has come to call again." says Emilia as she looks out of the window "Oh, how I despise his uncouth manners and electric bicycle!"

Charlotte says "Sister, you will end up a spinster if you insist on a historically accurate suitor."
and continues "The romance novel has changed, Emilia, and so must we."

Emilia replies "Easy for you to say. You are engaged to the richest werewolf in the county!"

They are walking through the house.

Charlotte says "Look at Cousin Lucy: She is quite plain, yet made a most advantageous match with the dragon queen of nalthrax."

"True." says Emilia opening the door.

The tall, solid figure of Miuster Blackwell stands at the door wearing a top hat and tailcoat:
"Ladies, I triumphed In my ice hockey match and won ten thousand a year in sponsorship! Miss Emilia, will you be my bride?" he is holding a hockey stick.

Emilia swoons into Charlotte's arms.

Hope your glumness dissipates too.

You are awesome and work in one of London’s most iconic buildings. Nothing is as glamorous in real life as in our imaginings but when I go to evensong as an occasional attender I do think β€œAnna’s in charge of all their books up that winding staircase”!

They’re not. You’re comparing your inside knowledge of yourself with wha they show to the world.

e.g. I have a stinking cold but my Instagram is all about the books I’m reading / listening to. I don’t mention the stinking cold or the Friday night plans I’ve had to cancel so not to spread the germs

Reading and writing can lower dementia risk by almost 40%, study finds Cognitive health in later life is β€˜strongly influenced’ by lifelong exposure to intellectually stimulating environments, say researchers

The study points to using libraries and visiting museums as bringing these enormous brain health benefits ... who would have thought? Well, librarians and museum folk for a start ... www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

It’s hard to compare because our reactions to being barked at vary according to who is doing it, our past history (with them and other people), the importance of the thing we’re being told to (not) do.

The issue is you experience being controlled / coerced. Personally I’d chat to my GP about it.

Fantastic, thanks for sharing. It's not officially out till next Thursday but from some reason Gardners (wholesalers) sent everything after the arse end of last week, not that me or @ortacpress.bsky.social are complaining about people being able to #GetKeshed early!

Really proud of @fechtbuch.bsky.social β€˜s latest professional achievement: he’s one of the reviewers for this year’s Wilbur Smith Adventure Writing Award.

It’s one of his favourite genres (nature writing and SFF being the others), so a real joy for him to see some of its very best new books πŸ“š

Hannah Arendt did not mince words, did she?

'Totalitarianism replaces all first-rate talents with crackpots and fools whose lack of intelligence and creativity is still the best guarantee of their loyalty.'

title: The Writer in January

Panel 1.
β€œA short stroll...” says the writer aleaving the house. The sun has begun to peek over the horizon.

Panel 2.
β€œThen back to my desk for a good day's writing in the winter sun.” The sun has risen a little higher.

Panel 3.
β€œSurely it's not going down yet?” The sun is indeed on its way down.

Panel 4.
β€œPerhaps I'll catch the last rays.” Says the writer breaking into a sprint.

Panel 5.
The writer is back at home sitting at a desk saying β€œDamn!”. The sun is gone. The sky is gloomy.

Attendees will consider:
- What weight does your bridge need to carry? (resource types, levels of description, available resources/tools, time constraints, institutional support, etc.)
- What materials will you use? (entities, elements, relationships, vocabularies, etc.)

23.01.2026 11:18 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

There will be hands-on, interactive workshops to explore building RDA 'bridges' (application profiles), from the very basic upwards. Facilitators from UKCoR will provide the building blocks for each team to create their bridge from non-RDA/original RDA to official RDA.
