The downside is that a lot of the time the BIG ideas are a lot more generic and… small.

I also reread two River World books, one of my all time childhood favs and yeesh. Farmer was a genius with a concept but a hack with a pen.

I’ve been re-reading some of my childhood favorites and it is embarrassing just how bad some of those in the “big ideas” were. Like i’ve read a Ben Bova “near future” (for 2005) book ant it is… embarassing. That’s the only way i can describe it.

I’ve said it before, you have sf&f writers with big ideas, and those who can truly write, there’s rarely an overlap ( @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social is a rare example of said overlap).

However it’s truly baffling how both of these standards have changed with time.

Re-reading the Southern Reach trilogy and inserting my own fuck and penis-lighthouse references to make it match better with Absolution.

I’m thinking of making this my poasting main.
