That every human should have the right to the resources required to live a happy, autonomous life, without exception, and that wealth and power should be radically redistributed until we can say 'no' to bad ideas in the places we labour without a trace of fear.

I listened in to meeting the other night and Zarah has no involvement in the conference and doesn't know if she'll even have a speaking slot. perfectly reasonable left wing people believe the whole thing is a stitch up and there's no chance of changing anything by vote. this thing is already dead.

I believe narratives of legitimate concerns from orgs like the Guardian are part of what brought us to this fascist moment broadly. I watched concerns of hypotheticals that were not reflected in data here or in other countries gradually transform into a monster that devoured my (trans) community.

Reform UK accused of embracing racism over its pick for head of student organisation
Matthew Goodwin argued people from minority ethnic backgrounds born and raised in UK were not always British
The Guardian gave Goodwin lots of space in the 2010s to whitewash racism as Legitimate Concerns, imbue those Concerns with faux working class authenticity, and denigrate anti racism as the bleatings of a cosmopolitan elite. Its a bit late to start Noticing now.

Luke fucking Akehurst
I've been bemused by the levels of excitement among some Labour colleagues about Zohran Mamdani being elected as mayor of New York.
The politics that appeals to New York City would go down like a cup of cold sick in US Rust Belt states or in UK post-industrial equivalents like my Nα» Privacy
When your excellent, very smart politics are fantastically popular and you are a locally and nationally beloved Titan of political charisma

Maybe, an improvement in some sense, but sometimes a surface improvement like this can be worse in the long run. Personally, the quicker we can come to consensus that this brand of centrism doesn't meet the needs of the day, the better.

Even as a detractor, there may be some "stuff" that is good with the bad. But I think you are underestimating the strength of feeling in left behind communities and the demand for change. Incremental, small improvements that can be reversed by the next government are _not_even_close_ to good enough.

At my hospital this is predated on the functions of 100s of admin staff being replaced with the NHS app and electronic patient records. The IT department focused exclusively on EPR for 6 months yet when it launched it broke so many things they turned it off and declared a critical incident.
