"AI speeds up development"
I've found in software engineering, AI often gets you 90% of the way there quickly but fixing that missing 10%, which isnโt obvious, can take just as long (or longer) than doing it all manually from scratch

I've seen it do okay with tailwind :)

Just asked AI for creative ways to weigh myself without body scales. It said to weigh myself on the doorframe using luggage scales

This is definitely true. I do wonder whether we still have an inherently 'leaky' system here though. Even if inaccuracy reduces substantially it compounds when tasks are sequenced together

"Cursor / vibe coding is mainstream at the moment"
Is this really true?
or is it just noise?
My professional dev friends say they only use these tools sometimes and the results are not reliable at a certain complexity.
Is it just noisy marketing?

Senior devs used to be the only ones managing juniors. Now, with codebase level LLM tools like Codex, Curosr etc, all devs will feel like they have a team of interns to spec tickets for. Will future devs have enough experience to know what success looks like for these tickets?

For people in the JS stack
If you don't want to fully invest into NextJS just for the benefit of static rendering consider using this instead,

I have only used it for a couple days but the same advice applies when using any LLMs. You need to clear what you want and try to get it to 'think' as little as possible. That means code styles, tech, layout and implementation.
I see devs needing to become very good at writing tickets in the future.

3 PRs I've made today via OpenAI's web based Codex. Apart from the usual AI problems, I've found making changes by the way of PRs and branches in Github much better vs doing things via a terminal.
Has anyone else been using it?

Who is using OpenAI's Codex today? I've just been given access via my Plus subscription and it seems to be good at making PRs in my first attempt ๐

Software devs - there is a setting in Github to make it so your private repo contributions appear on your profile. Make sure to turn it on if you are active and want people to see.

"Early-stage employees need to be in the office so we can whiteboard together and work effectively."
Early-stage companies also need a good reason for people to join them, and letting them work remotely is a great one at zero cost.

A potential client told me theyโre paying ยฃ100/month for someone to maintain their ecommerce store. Said it feels like too much.
If thatโs a stretch, maybe itโs not the right time for your own store.
But if you're set on it, go with a managed platform and DIY.

This works because there is much less to do for the LLM. All it needs to do is just copy over the HTML and it will inherit the styles. This is way easier than making it reason about where styles are coming from.

What inspired me to experiment with this was noticing that Loveable produces seemingly better results than other tools. I saw that they use Tailwind and wondered whether they are simply generating sections based on examples from their own heuristics.

The second and arguably my biggest 'hack' here is to find a website that is easily copied. There is some nuance to this but the most obvious example is a site that is exclusively styled via TailwindCSS / another utility first CSS equivalent (Bootstrap / Foundation are others).
