Is global change biology a 'source' or a 'sink' of ecological hypotheses?

That is, has global change biology created new hypotheses, or has it mostly adopted existing questions from general ecology?

What do you think? I think it's the latter.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi benefit plants in response to major global change factors Ecology Letters is a broad-scope ecology journal considering all taxa, in any biome and geographic area, and spanning community, microbial & evolutionary ecology.

Happy to share our new paper in Ecology Letters : Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi benefit plants in response to major global change factors, @mrillig.bsky.social Here is the link: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

Just out in Current Biology:
Ecosystem consequences of invertebrate decline

A massive mesocosm experimt testing the effects of reduced invertebrate numbers on ecosystem processes. Glad to have been able to contribute to this study led by the fabulous Nico Eisenhauer.

Generating ideas for research questions in ecology & environmental science Making new links across different dimensions of ecology and beyond

This is still my favorite substack newsletter post.
It is an evolving recipe for how to come up with new questions and ideas in ecology. 🧪

Time management: which opportunities should you take? #timemanagement #creativity #academia #phd
Which opportunities should you accept, and which should you decline? This is a key question in time management - since you can't say yes to everything. Here ... Time management: which opportunities should you take? #timemanagement #creativity #academia #phd

The soil plastisphere is a novel compartment in soils, developing around plastic particles. It has unique properties, and it harbors a specific microbiome.

Read about it in our new paper in Nature Reviews Microbiology.
