IMPLICATIONS: ante+intra-partum music listening benefits = multifaceted. Music listening offers a practical, non-pharmacological strategy to support prenatal care +childbirth. & when listening involves partners and family, it can holistically support maternal/family well-being.

IMPLICATIONS: it is important to prioritise detailed information about the music involved (styles,features) and admin (devices,settings,professional involvement). Reporting transparency will refine and standardise music interventions aimed at promoting maternal well-being.

RESULTS: substantial variability in the detail concerning the music resources used> for many, minimal info. This lack of detail = challenges for reproducing + applying the findings. From what was reported, a single listening session w music chosen by the experimenter was common.

RESULTS: WB benefits experienced during birth include pain management, psychological well-being, and labour progression: music listening during labour is associated with shortened first-stage labour, increased rates of vaginal deliveries, and accelerated labour progression.

METHOD: PRISMA Scoping Review via database search w. 3 search terms (versions of music, listen*, prenatal/birth). Analysed+charted 55 articles; thematic analysis to identify well-being benefits of music listening during pregnancy/birth w a second TA re: the musical/admin features.

AIM: This scoping review aimed to 1. consolidate evidence-based knowledge on the role of music listening for maternal well-being prenatally and during birth, and 2. examine the characteristics of the music resources used in the research leading to the promotion of well-being.
