@mrjamesob.bsky.social Hiya, just regarding you being corrected on ”independent“ to “indefinite“, it’s more than “semantics”. To those of us on ILR, the “indefinite“ was a promise, like an agreement both sides signed up to. It’s a really important word to us.

There still doesn’t seem to be any HO recognition of the fact that so many airline staff still don’t know how to view the eVisa (and in the boarding queue this often isn’t possible). I know fellow Kiwis/Aussies who sorted their eVisa months ago but have still been refused boarding. It’s a mess.

The use of expired UK biometric residence permits has been extended to June, as people continue to have problems with the eVisa system. What. A. Shock.
Why was the eVisa brought in if the various stakeholders were so unprepared?

Thankfully my BRP expires a few months later than most people’s (most have now expired but mine is still valid). Otherwise I would be stuck in Italy. And I linked my eVisa to my passport back in August…

Tried eVisa returning from Italy.
Airlines might be able to see it at check-in but at boarding I was asked for my ETA (a different thing) or proof of residency.
My eVisa is linked to my passport, I say. We can’t see eVisas here, lady replies.
Can I ever leave the UK again? Feels like a gamble.

Sorted my eVisa months ago. Logged on tonight to find it no longer seems to be linked to my passport and can’t be linked without me posting my passport to the Home Office.
Sometimes it feels like the Home Office sees these things as a game - but it’s playing with people’s lives.

As a New Zealander, it bugs me that the country’s ugliest building - the Sky Tower - is what we show to the world on this day each year.

We've come to the end of our second 48-hour strike. Thank you to everyone who joined us today. Another great day with homemade mince pies, Christmas carols and guests such as Emily Thornberry and Gary Younge.
You've all been amazing.

Here’s my first contribution: if escalator technician isn’t on the list of occupations eligible for a skilled worker visa, it should be.
The number of train stations with escalators that don’t work makes me think there are nowhere near enough people in the UK with this skill.
