And really finally....Brian's last posting on X remains as trenchant today as it was 6 years ago.

Finally, a tip o'the hat for legendary LBC producer, Lawrie Douglas, who played a massive role establishing Brian's programme as must-listen radio...and was nice enough to let a youngster sit in the control room and watch it all happen from time to time.

...Nothing ever upended him, and his range - from covering breaking news to helming in-depth interviews with actors, writers, diplomats, sporting heroes and ordinary Joes - was breath-taking. He will be sorely missed....

….I was lucky enough to spend hours in the Gough Square studio watching him work, and learned more about live broadcasting from that experience than from anything else. Later, in LBC’s Hammersmith days, I got to know him well. His talent was natural, unique, and unequalled.....

Deeply sad to hear that the brilliant, legendary Brian Hayes has died at the age of 87. His contribution to British radio knew no bounds. While he didn't create the @lbc.co.uk phone-in, he perfected it after moving over from Capital Radio in the early days of ILR.....
