I'm now 89 drawings deep into an 18-month drawing project.

It's useful to have older pens that are at varying stages of running out of ink. It increases the range of textures and tones you can create. The downside is that it also increases the difficulty of remembering which one does what!

A view of my drawing desk today, as I work on a continuing set of pen and ink landscape drawings. The photo shows a wooden desk top. On it are a closed laptop, an open sketchbook showing two pen drawing of a boardwalk disappearing ahead through trees and bushes, and, scattered all around it, approximately 20 Uni-pin fineliner pens, and a few other items like pencils and an eraser.

You can never have enough pens.

I will be participating in this new #exhibition at the end of February. "Landscape and Meaning" sees me combining with three great artists and friends.

Volumes 1-3 of "A Never-Ending Way" will be on display, the first time such a major component of this project will appear together in public.

Thank you! Only one side is drawn on, so I have more options to display/exhibit it when the project is done.

A 32 page concertina sketchbook opened out and stood up on a dining room table. Each page has a black and white pen drawing representing a drawn walk on the Hinksey Heights Nature Trail, near Oxford (UK), where the artist has been working as a volunteer for the past five years to restore and develop several miles of trail paths and boardwalks.

These things are difficult to photograph though. And I've got two more, with a fourth on the way. 😜🙂

I have completed Drawings 84 and 85 of Volume 3 of "A Never-Ending Way".

In the gloom of an English January, the landscape is harder to capture. The topography is obscured, and even the plants and trees seem indistinct. I feel like I am drawing textures and tones rather than details.
