3. Our current economic settings and huge wealth gap leads to civil disobedience and people feeling disaffected. Petty crime, shoplifting etc are all symptoms of that.

Caught the Springsteen movie last night. It’s a solid, if uninspiring portrayal of the Boss’s recording of the Nebraska album. A lot of Bruce wrestling with his demons, flashbacks to his contrasting relationships with his parents & tensions with his record company. #FilmSky

I have just discovered that the actor who plays Bruce’s mother also played Maizy Russell the youngest daughter in Uncle Buck. Now I feel very old 😬

A very rare trip to the big Omniplex last night & I’m interested to know, is it normal to have 25 mins (yes 25!) of feckin adverts before the movie starts? Two trailers for thon Roy Keane movie & Wicked the rest adverts 😬

My seven-year-old grandson told his Dad and me a few weeks ago that he thought we shouldn't eat meat 'except for chicken and pigs because they're dumb'.

The electric Nebraska version of Atlantic city is great and basically what Bruce plays live, but the cassette tape version is maybe the greatest song ever recorded.

Masticating my hat as I type.

Won't rush to play 'Electric Nebraska' again but the Outtakes here are GREAT!

That’s why they’re good at organising. Unions are just their bread and butter. They also organise protests and hikoi. They submit en masse to select committees. They practice the β€˜long march through the institutions’ where they take over schools and universities to spread their way of thinking. Most people on the Right are too busy doing actual work to notice.

ACT was founded by people who knew their enemy. Roger Douglas and Richard Prebble came out of Labour where they fought the toughest unionists and leftists around. A fisherman sees another fisherman, from afar.

The ACT Party Coalition agreement called for the Government to β€˜Restore balance to the Aotearoa New Zealand’s Histories curriculum.’ This was after the β€˜Aotearoa New Zealand Histories Curriculum’ was introduced under Labour.

ACT railed against this politicisation. The Party saw what was happening. Marxist ideology where everything is a matter of colonisation and class struggle was writ large in the four β€˜big ideas.’ It was using a children’s curriculum to advance an adult political project.

You're not allowed to view history through any lens but his. Certainly not from the perspective of "the enemy", unions and leftists.

Got excited about a "combating scientific realism" starter pack before @annaclemencia.bsky.social revealed it was actually a "combating scientific racism" pack. Also good. Not the same. Now I need someone to make an antirealist pack.

Also, we will be rebuilding climate-shattered and futureless places with our public funds long after it makes no rational sense to do so, because this "disaster industrial complex" makes more money slapping up cheap rebuilds than it would make building rugged communities in relatively safe places.

Karanga-a-Hape station has operational passenger information displays (PIDs). Suddenly City Rail Link looks very real.

Also good to see new public realm underway in Mercury Lane.

The original CRL plan reinstated southbound through-traffic right outside a πŸš‡ station entrance :(

This is better.#CRL

To tie this week together, Anne Frank was about four months younger than Patricia Routledge and could very much have been alive today.

Been thinking quite a bit recently about how my nan nearly always left the house with a shawl on, and that I don't think I've seen a single person wearing one since around the time she stopped walking to the shops about 20 years ago.

Our brains evaluate food within milliseconds, long before we’ve decided to eat it How tasty is it? How healthy is it? Our brains work this out faster than conscious thought.

In our new paper, we show how, just hundreds of milliseconds after we have seen a food, many different attributes are reflected in brain activity. This happens extremely fast, long before a person can consciously decide whether or not to buy or eat the food. theconversation.com/our-brains-e...

Yet again i want to remind everyone that Bill Gates and several other billionaires have invested in mining projects in Greenland that are only accessible because of melted land and sea ice, he and other billionaires are essentially shorting the planet

Wikipedia Says AI Is Causing a Dangerous Decline in Human Visitors β€œWith fewer visits to Wikipedia, fewer volunteers may grow and enrich the content, and fewer individual donors may support this work.”

This is extremely bad, and why even if you say you are using LMs to "summarize" you are contributing to the death of the Internet (and inevitable model collapse of your own tools).

Yup. We need to go back to 2007 and say fuck no to Facebook. That was the beginning of the death of the Internet and the downfall of many good things.
